Help ATCB Elevate Art Therapy Standards

The ATCB relies on the passion and investment of credentialed art therapists to continue its mission of protecting the public by promoting the competent and ethical practice of art therapy. Would you like to support the Art Therapy Credentials Board and volunteer as a board member or committee member?

Ways to Volunteer With The ATCB

There are many benefits to volunteering – networking with fellow art therapists and obtaining connections, developing technical and/or leadership skills, the ability to create additional opportunities for yourself within your career and maintaining the rigor of art therapy through the credentialing and oversight.  The ATCB encourages you to get involved and make an impact in art therapy through volunteerism! There are opportunities to suit your interests, level of effort, and available time commitment.

Become A Subject Matter Expert

Being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a professional service that offers the chance to collaborate with passionate professionals and contribute to art therapy. SMEs help develop assessments, credentials, and certification standards, directly impacting art therapy qualifications. The ATCB requires SMEs’ expertise since its products are created by art therapists for art therapists. Participating as an SME counts toward continuing education for board certification.

Some Subject Matter Expert Opportunities with ATCB

Item Writers: Use Your Expertise to Craft the Exam

Item writers play a key role in developing the ATCBE exam by creating test questions that reflect current, real-world competencies in art therapy. With guidance from ATCB’s psychometrician and Prometric’s assessment team, item writers are trained to develop questions that are fair, valid, and aligned with exam standards.

Item Reviewers: Ensure Quality and Accuracy

Item reviewers are responsible for evaluating test questions for clarity, relevance, and accuracy. Using their subject matter expertise, reviewers provide critical feedback to ensure each item meets established content and psychometric guidelines. Like item writers, reviewers receive specialized training and work closely with the ATCB and Prometric teams.
